Mandisa’s Journey

Mandisa a Grammy and Dove Award-nominated Christian singer & performer gives us all encouragement through our Journey. Mandisa shares her Journey To 100 in two YouTube videos. View the videos below.

One of the things that stuck with me from video #2 was that the trainer said her main goal was to keep Mandisa moving for the entire 45 minutes.  A great way to keep moving is to walk. I am a fan of walking. Click here to view all Journey to Where Walking related designs.

A Tax on Plastic Bags

I heard on talk radio that a Texas State House of Representative member wants to tax plastic bags at .07 per bag. If this becomes a low in Texas every time you go to Wal-mart or Tom Thumb and leave out with 10 – 15 bags of groceries in a plastic bag your bill will increase by about .70 – 1.05. He feels that if we know that we have to pay extra for that plastic bag we will accept paper or use recyclable bags.  Do you really think that people will care that they had to pay an extra .70 cents?

I think frugal Texans will refuse to pay the tax. Frugal Texans will accept paper or bring a bag full of re-usable tote bags.  How will the grocery stores and drug stores deal with the increased security risk with consumers bringing in a lot of bags and carrying them throughout the store. If this does happen will store security increase?

I can see it now. The ladies that play the coupon game. Oops. I mean the people that play the coupon game and the drug store games can get together and share tote bags. That way no one person has to buy a lot of tote bags. They can just pass the tote bags around. One person can have all the totes on one day, the next person and use the totes on another day, and so on. So this could work. It would just be inconvenient, especially when you have to buy a lot of groceries. Or would this mean more little trips. I don’t see a lot of people in the grocery store now with the reusable totes. I do see them using the tote bags in Walgreen.

Do stores even still offer paper bags? I remember when I was little that was the question the bag boy always asked, “Paper or Plastic.” It sounds as though we may start to hear that question again. I even remember the first time I went to a grocery store in NY and my aunt gave use bags to take with us. The store we went to charged 3 cents per bag. I thought that was just crazy.

I could go on and on about this issue of plastic bags but I am think I will just make a design or two about the issue of taxing plastic bags. So come back again to see the No Plastic Bags Design. Until then you can always browse our collection of recyclable canvas tote bags.
